The Warracknabeal Community Garden is in jeopardy, as the owner of the land seeks to sell the block it resides on.

For 10 years the garden block has been privately owned, with the garden group paying an annual “peppercorn rent”.

Secretary Marie Atkin said the landowner was willing to work with them, and help facilitate the community purchasing the land so the garden could stay in its present location.

The Warracknabeal Action Group (WAG) has expressed support for retaining the garden’s location, and for community ownership.

They are working closely with the community garden group which Community Garden president Avril Hein said has been established to explore all the ways the community might be able to purchase the land.

“There seems to be a lot of support for the garden and soon we will be seeking donations to help us achieve our goal,” she said.

Located at 100 Scott Street, the Community Garden is a welcoming space for all, and a valued part of Warracknabeal’s main street.

To find out more, call into the Garden on Easter Saturday, where the group will be conducting an Easter Egg Hunt and selling their famous baked potatoes.

A flyer will be available with more information on the land sale, including how to make a donation towards its purchase
