A ride in a luxurious Lamborghini is up for grabs for those who attend the upcoming cancer research fundraiser.

The fundraising lunch is to be held on September 15 with all profits raised going towards the Fiona Elsey Cancer Research Institute.

Warracknabeal resident Barbara Morrow organised the event to take place in memory of her late husband, Kevin Morrow, who died of spinal cancer.

It was Ms Morrow's children - Gavin, Wade, Tanya and Shannon - that have urged her to get involved in fundraising for the vital research.

"My sons, grandsons and all people that had been affected by cancer all went on a postie bike ride soon after Kevin passed away and raised $40,000 for the institute," she said.

"They rode from the start of the Murray River and followed it all the way to the mouth of the Murray in the name of cancer research fundraising.

"They've put in well over $50,000 so far and continue to fundraise all the time. Now I just wanted to do my bit in Warracknabeal."

For her first fundraiser, Ms Morrow has organised for the research institute founder, Gail Elsey, to be a guest speaker.

Ms Elsey will be speaking about the loss of her daughter, Fiona, to the terminal illness and inspiration for the institute, Fiona.

Wimmera oncologist Professor George Kannourakis will bring a video presentation that will detail the institute’s current research efforts.

"George was my husband’s oncologist… he's the oncologist for most people that have cancer in the Wimmera and he frequently visits the hospital in Horsham as well," Ms Morrow said.

A two-course meal, tea and coffee will be provided at Warracknabeal Golf Course for the 12pm lunch.

Ms Morrow would like to remind attendees to bring change to the event so they may take place in the raffle for many prizes, including the Lamborghini ride.

Tickets can be purchased for the event at Geoffrey's Men's Wear or through Ms Morrow by September 12.
