Netting a book about rural decline

“I NEVER imagined myself as being an author.” Starting as purely a family project, Ron Dodds said his wife, Mary, had a strong interest in genealogy, which led him to write about his heritage – and much more.

By Mark Rabich

Former Perenna resident, Ron Dodds has written about his 54 years of life in the predominantly-cropping region north of Nhill on the fringe of the Big Desert, documenting the changes in farming methods such as the introduction of minimum tillage, and the gradual but total exodus of the community that used to live there. South of the Netting Fence is available at the Horsham Newsagency, the Dimboola Imaginarium and from the Nhill Historical Society.
