St Joseph’s Primary School students planted native trees and shrubs at Lake Lascelles on Thursday, July 24, as part of National Schools Tree Day.

Students of all ages worked alongside teachers and Lake volunteers to help revegetate the popular local site.

The planting day was a hands-on opportunity for students to contribute to their environment and learn more about sustainability and caring for creation.

“Planting trees is one small way we can show respect for the Earth and protect it for future generations,” said Principal Cynthia Maiden.

"It ties in beautifully with our commitment to Catholic Social Teaching, especially the principle of stewardship and Pope Francis’ message in Laudato Si’ about caring for our common home.”

Students planted a range of native species chosen for their suitability to the local climate and soil.

The new plants will help provide habitat for birds and wildlife, reduce erosion, and contribute to the natural beauty of Lake Lascelles, a spot enjoyed by locals and visitors alike.

National Schools Tree Day is part of Planet Ark’s broader National Tree Day campaign, Australia’s largest community tree-planting and nature care event.

St Joseph’s participation reflects their ongoing commitment to environmental education and taking meaningful action in the local community.
