Have your say: council
Formalising tiny homes across the Hindmarsh Shire Council is one of several key issues in focus this month.

The council is seeking the community's opinion on its local laws and domestic animal management plan via its 'Have Your Say' portal.
Currently, there is no local law pertaining to tiny homes.
However, with the current housing crisis reaching new highs, chief executive Monica Revell said council aims to measure public opinion on allowing Tiny Homes within townships.
"With the current housing crisis council is keen to hear from the community ways to provide alternate accommodation options, including thoughts on Tiny homes within townships and what is considered a reasonable timeframe for temporary accommodation," she said.
"There is currently no allowance in the Hindmarsh Municipal Local Law for Tiny homes, and an owner or occupier cannot reside in a tent, caravan or annex on any land for more than three months in a calendar year without a permit."
To date, tiny home regulations are enforced by a Camping on Private Property permit.
Covering everything from permits to parking, local laws are designed to protect community assets, public health and safety.
"We encourage as many community members as possible to provide feedback," the CEO said.
While focusing on stray cats and wandering dogs is a vital aspect of the council's domestic animal management plan, promoting responsible pet ownership also forms the foundation of the municipality's four-year plan.
the public's input will inform the Draft Hindmarsh Municipal Local Law and the Draft Domestic Animal Management Plan.
; however, submissions close 11:59pm on Wednesday, June 25, 2025.
